Kahu Huruhuru – Poutama Design

This miniature kahu huruhuru is suitable for christenings and other special occasions. Handmade in New Zealand, it features feathers machine-stitched onto a lined fabric base, with the feathers wrapping around to the inside.

Although sometimes referred to as a korowai, this is a modern kahu huruhuru made using machine-stitched feathers rather than traditional handwoven techniques.

Tāniko Design – Poutama

Poutama is a stepped pattern associated with learning, knowledge and personal growth. It represents the ascent of Tāne-nui-a-Rangi to the heavens to retrieve the three baskets of knowledge for the Māori people. The ascending steps symbolise progress and the pursuit of knowledge.
